Protestors gathered in multiple Alabama cities yesterday to voice their opposition to a proposed replacement for the Affordable Care Act.

In Mobile, Al.com reports around 100 people gathered in front of the federal courthouse yesterday evening. The event was in part to promote organizers’ demand for Alabama U.S. Senators Richard Shelby and Luther Strange to actually meet with their constituents ahead of a healthcare vote in the Senate.

The rally included several speakers who highlighted deficiencies in the GOP healthcare proposal. Organizer and attorney Henry Brewster pointed to a Congressional Budget Office analysis released yesterday stating 22 million Americans would likely lose coverage under the proposed measure in the next ten years. Other speakers included representatives of Planned Parenthood and ARC Alabama as well as healthcare professionals and several local government officials.

Neither Shelby nor Strange have commented publicly on the rallies. On a Fox Business program last week, Strange spoke positively of the Senate bill, saying it would “repeal Obamacare's disastrous individual and employer mandates, repeal taxes on chronic care, health savings accounts, and medical devices, and put Medicaid on a budget that works for individual states.”
