State officials are looking at options for a planned bridge that would span the Mobile River and help eliminate traffic congestion along the Gulf Coast.
The state is currently accepting recommendations on how to best incorporate pedestrian and bicycle traffic into plans for the project, which would reroute Interstate 10 through Mobile.
Walkers, joggers and bicyclists could be accommodated with their own lane on the span, which would be longer than the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. Non-vehicle traffic could also be sent through an existing tunnel under the river or over another bridge.
Costs are a key part of the equation since funding for the bridge and an accompanying widening project are still up in the air.
Highway officials haven't said when they plan to begin construction.
