Internationally renowned pianist, author, and storyteller Mona Golabek will take the stage to share the extraordinary story of her mother, Lisa Jura, a young Jewish pianist who survived the Holocaust because of the Kindertransport. Through a moving blend of music and storytelling, Golabek will bring to life the resilience, courage, and legacy of her mother’s journey.
This story speaks to anyone who has ever faced adversity, held onto a dream, or searched for hope in a difficult situation.
The event, presented by a partnership between the Gulf Coast Center for Holocaust and Human Rights Education and the Alabama Holocaust Education Center, will take place on Wednesday, April 9th, 6:30 PM at the Saenger Theatre offering audiences an unforgettable evening of history, hope, and the power of music.
Lisa Jura’s story, immortalized in Mona Golabek’s bestselling book The Children of Willesden Lane, recounts her mother’s escape from Nazi-controlled Vienna and her life as a refugee in London. While separated from her family, Lisa found solace and strength in music, eventually pursuing her dream of becoming a concert pianist.
"As I share my mother’s story, I hope to inspire audiences to understand the impact of resilience and the transformative power of the arts," said Golabek. "Music gave my mother hope, and I believe it has the power to unite and heal."
Golabek’s performance, which has captivated audiences worldwide, intertwines masterful piano interpretations of classical works with the deeply personal narrative of survival and determination.
