Lawson State Accepting Former ITT Students

Lawson State Community College

Some displaced ITT Technical Institutes students will start hitting the books again this week.

Many students of the now-defunct school have enrolled at local universities and community colleges in Alabama. Lawson State Community College is one of several schools offering help to students affected by ITT’s closure. They have invited many former ITT students to enroll in their second fall mini-term.

Students may face challenges in transferring credits. Regionally accredited institutions only accept credits that meet certain standards.

Geri Albright is the director of public relations and community affairs for Lawson State. She says their goal is to show students the doors that are still open to them.

“We wanted to present to them the opportunities at Lawson State Community College to let them know that there are still educational opportunities that are available to them. A lot of those students, unfortunately, felt really displaced at that point.”

Students who were unable to enroll in the second mini-term may still be able to attend Lawson State in the spring semester.
