Blue Bell Creameries is looking to set the record straight regarding new reports of listeria in production facilities.
Multiple media outlets recently reported that Blue Bell had once again found the bacteria in its plants, as the company works to overcome a listeria outbreak that killed three people and forced the company to recall its entire product line.
Those reports were based on a statement released Thursday highlighting Blue Bell's increased focus on safety. The statement said Blue Bell had identified areas in their facilities where listeria may be present, and that they will continue to clean and sanitize those areas.
Blue Bell recently clarified that statement, saying they identified potential problem areas but have not found any listeria bacteria in their facilities.
In the wake of the listeria outbreak, Blue Bell signed an agreement with the Alabama Department of Public Health granting state officials full access to all testing of Blue Bell products made in their Sylacauga facility.
The U.S. Department of Justice has launched a criminal investigation of the company attempting to determine if Blue Bell executives committed any wrongdoing in their handling of the contamination.
