Adopting a pet at Christmas gives both pet and new owner a special gift that keeps giving all year long. If you have room in your life for a new four-footed buddy, adopt one today and share Christmas with your best friend!

Many of us know just how lonely it can feel when you’re away from family and friends during the holidays. But it’s difficult to imagine a more lonely place to be at Christmas than in a cage at an animal shelter.
Again this year, the Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter is holding a special adoption event called “Home for the Holidays”, today until 6 PM, to find homes for as many shelter pets as possible.
Adoption fees will be reduced to just $25, but you will still get all the regular benefits when you adopt, including first shots, microchip, food and of course, spay/neuter.
You can visit the website at MetroAnimalShelter.org to view animals up for adoption, and even download an adoption application. But then visit the shelter, and meet the animals face-to-face. Staff and volunteers will be on hand to answer questions and help you find the right four-footed companion that fits your family and your lifestyle, because adopting a pet into your home is just like gaining a new family member.
If you want to help, but you just can’t adopt a pet right now, consider making a donation to sponsor an animal; that will help someone else get a new best friend. You can even choose the animal, like Cheddar the cat or Mollie the dog. You could help a homeless pet find the perfect gift of a forever home this year.
If you are not in the Tuscaloosa area, check with your local animal welfare group, as many of them are just as eager to place their animals in loving homes. Consider that your new best friend may be there, just waiting for you to walk through the door.
And remember – if you’re in the Tuscaloosa area today, visit Metro Animal Shelter at 3140 35th Street before 6 PM for their Home for the Holidays event and a great deal on a Christmas dog or cat.
That familiar old song is right – there is no place like home for the holidays. And think about this - you can take a new companion home for the holidays knowing that neither of you will have to spend Christmas alone for years to come, when you’re speaking of pets.
