There are lots of good reasons for adopting a dog, especially during October, which is Adopt-a-Dog Month.  There are also lots of good reasons for supporting Alabama Public Radio - and surprisingly the reasons are very similar.  Either way you get a faithful friend!

**************************

October is Adopt-a-Dog Month. Now you may be wondering, why should you adopt a dog? Well, for one thing, you would be saving a life. Each year millions of pets never make it out of the nation’s animal shelters alive, because there are too many of them and not enough good, loving homes.

For another, you gain a companion and a best friend. Many people who adopt from a shelter say the animals seem to know they’ve got a second chance to be a great pet and they appreciate it.

There usually is a good selection of animals to choose from, so if you’re looking for a specific breed, or size or temperament, you can probably find it.

Many shelters are operated by not-for-profit organizations, so you would be supporting a worthy cause by adopting one of their animals.

And when others see you with your new friend, they might be encouraged to adopt their next pet from the shelter, saving yet another life, and the benefits would start all over again.

You know, some of the reasons to adopt a dog from your local shelter could be great reasons to support Alabama Public Radio.

After all, APR is a faithful companion, and will follow you almost anywhere you want to go. You might listen in your car, at home, your office, your smart phone, on the internet – it’s easy to tune in and hear those familiar voices and programs and award-winning newscasts.

There’s a great selection of programs to choose from, whether you like classical music, bluegrass, or the Crooners; maybe you’ve had a few driveway moments when you stayed in the car just to hear the end of a musical piece or a news story or more of an interview from Terry Gross.

By contributing to Alabama Public Radio you would definitely be helping a great organization and supporting a worthy cause.

And when you make a contribution, that might encourage others to do the same, so that the benefits of Alabama Public Radio continue for all of us.

So, visit your local shelter, adopt a dog and save a life. Call or go online to donate to APR, and support the programming that makes life better for all of us, when you’re speaking of Alabama Public Radio.
