State troopers say nine people died in traffic accidents linked to this week's winter storm in Alabama.

Alabama Department of Public Safety officials say six people were killed in car crashes during Labor Day weekend.

Department spokeswoman Robyn Litchfield says state troopers investigated five accidents that left six people dead between 6 p.m. Friday and midnight on Monday.

Litchfield says the accidents happened in Blount, Chambers, DeKalb, Limestone and Marengo counties.

Officials say alcohol factored into at least one of the five crashes.

Litchfield says seatbelts were available to four of the six people who died over the weekend. Of that number, three crash victims were wearing a seatbelt during an accident.
