Time is running out to vote for your favorite finalist to win the Americah Humane Association's 2012 Hero Dog Award!
*********************************************
Heroes come in all shapes and sizes. Some folks look at sports figures as heroes, others look at world leaders. September 11th helped to redefine the word “hero” as so many firemen, police and ordinary citizens gave their lives to help save others.
The American Humane Association created the Hero Dog Award to remind us that some heroes have four legs. And they want your help to find this year’s Hero Dog. Hundreds of dogs were nominated, and more than two million votes were cast online to choose one finalist in each of eight categories, but only one will become America’s top Hero Dog. Who do you think should win it all?
Holly is an 11-year-old Collie. Trained in seizure alert and response, she is nominated in the Service Dog category. Her charity partner is the International Association of Assistance Dog Partners.
Daniel the Beagle represents the Emerging Hero category. He’s the dog that miraculously survived the gas chamber. His charity partner is Pine Street Foundation’s Canine Cancer Detection.
A black Labrador named Soot is nominated in the Search and Rescue Dogs group. His charity partner is the Sage Foundation for Dogs Who Serve.
Jynx, a German Shepherd, is nominated in the Law Enforcement/Arson Dog category. His charity partner is K9s4COPS.
A 2-year-old Standard Poodle named Stella is nominated in the Therapy Dog category. Her charity partner is Angel on a Leash.
The Military Dog category is represented by a 10-year-old Lab named Gabe. This highly decorated dog’s charity partner is the United States War Dog Association.
Tabitha is a German Shepherd nominated in the Guide Dog category. Her charity partner is Leader Dogs for the Blind.
And finally, the Hearing Dog category is represented by Tatiana, a Lab-Golden Retriever mix. Her charity partner is Dogs for the Deaf.

And while you’re at it, give your own four-legged hero an extra pat on the head, when you’re speaking of pets.
