Huntsville, AL – AirTran Airways says it will discontinue service to Huntsville starting Aug. 12.
The airline which is now a subsidiary of Southwest Airlines, said in a statement Friday there are some markets it cannot continue to serve ``in the current fuel environment.'' Huntsville is one of six airports where service will be discontinued. AirTran's 22 other locations will continue to operate and will eventually join the Southwest route map.
AirTran currently has two daily nonstop flights at Huntsville. Those flights will continue to operate through Aug. 11. Ticketed passengers, those with reservations or passengers who want to make reservations don't need to alter travel plans before Aug. 12.
