Gadsden, AL – An Etowah County grand jury has indicted the 33-year-old son of a Coosa County assistant district attorney on an extortion charge.
Ryan Teel was arrested Monday, along with his father, Frank Teel, and Gadsden attorney Frank Bailey. All three were indicted by a grand jury that met the week of June 7.
Frank Teel and Bailey initially were arrested in May and charged with extortion, bribery of public servants and use of their positions for personal gain. Ryan Teel was not charged at that time.
The elder Teel and Bailey were arrested after they allegedly tried to extort $5 million from a Gadsden businessman with the threat of a capital murder indictment to settle a civil lawsuit against the businessman.
Frank Teel also has a private practice in Rockford. An attorney representing him says Teel was legitimately negotiating for a client.
