Montgomery, AL – The state school board picked Senator Bradley Byrne Thursday to be chancellor of Alabama's two-year college system, agreeing with Governor Bob Riley's recommendation to put the Fairhope Republican in charge of the embattled program.
The vote was eight-to-one, with board member Ella Bell of Montgomery casting the dissenting vote.
Byrne fills a post that has been the focus of criticism since Roy Johnson was removed and fired last year amid a probe of corruption and questions about nepotism in the two-year college system.
