Benilde Little: 'Who Does She Think She Is?'

Benilde Little is among a thriving group of female novelists forging a new direction for African-American fiction.

With her 2001 debut novel Good Hair, Little won critical praise for her sharply written story of class divisions among upper-class black America, and how emotions can be used as powerful weapons.

In her fourth and latest novel Who Does She Think She Is? Little continues her observations on class-consciousness and cultural tensions -- this time, through the eyes of three generations of upwardly mobile, strong black women.

At the center of Who Does She Think She Is? is young, beautiful Aisha, who is preparing to marry her fabulously rich -- and white -- fiancé when she falls instead for a mysterious older man.
