Huntsville Times Loses Bureau Chief

Huntsville, AL – The longtime Marshall County bureau chief for the Huntsville Times died Saturday from cancer at a Birmingham hospital. Laranda Nichols was 55 years old. Nichols is survived by her husband, Nick, and her son, Jonathan. She was a Georgia native and received a journalism degree from the University of Alabama. Nichols joined the Times as its Marshall County bureau chief in 1975 after working at the Sand Mountain Reporter in Albertville and at the Leader Dispatch in Boaz. Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at W. T. Wilson Funeral Chapel in Rainsville.
