Kharon Davis

A judge has refused to give a new trial to a man who spent a decade in jail before going to trial on murder charges.

Houston County Circuit Judge Kevin Moulton last week refused a grant Kharon Davis a new trial. The case drew national attention because Davis was held without bond for 10 years before going to trial

A jury in September found Davis guilty of murder in the 2007 shooting death of Pete Reaves. He was sentenced to life in prison.

A judge says he is not moving the murder trial of an Alabama man that has so far been jailed for 10 years without receiving a trial.

Yesterday, Houston County Judge Kevin Moulton denied a defense request to move the trial due to publicity surrounding the case. Judge Moulton says defense lawyers for Kharon Davis failed to demonstrate that media coverage surrounding the trial would prevent Davis from receiving a fair trial in Houston County. Moulton says defense lawyers would be able to determine whether jurors were biased against their defendant during jury selection.

A man who has been held in jail in Alabama for a full decade without a trial wants his case dismissed.

A judge will hold a hearing later today on the request to dismiss murder charges against Kharon Davis of Dothan, Ala. Davis was arrested in 2007 in the shooting death of Pete Reaves and has pleaded not guilty.
