Alabama's governor is seeking federal assistance for five more Alabama counties that suffered damage from severe weather last week.

Gov. Robert Bentley says his administration submitted an application to the president on Tuesday for individual disaster assistance in DeKalb, Etowah, Blount, Tuscaloosa and Mobile counties.

The state is already receiving federal assistance for Limestone, Jefferson, Lee and Baldwin counties for the tornadoes and flooding that hit the state last week and claimed five lives.

Alabama Getting More Tornado Recovery Aid

Alabama is getting nearly $120 million in federal assistance to help with recovery from April 2011 tornadoes.

Gov. Robert Bentley announced Wednesday that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development will provide the state government with $49.2 million to distribute to recovery projects. Tuscaloosa will get $43.9 million, Birmingham $17.5 million, and Jefferson County $9.1 million.


Bentley says the new funding will help several areas of the state that are still suffering long-term effects from the storms.

Most Of Ala's Isaac Request For Beach, Sand Work

Most of Gov. Bentley's federal assistance request following Hurricane Isaac is for beach repair and sand removal.

Most of Alabama's request for $9.4 million in federal assistance following Hurricane Isaac would pay for beach repair or sand removal.

The state released to The Associated Press a copy of an aid request that Gov. Robert Bentley wrote to President Barack Obama this week.

About $6.2 million is being sought to repair beaches in Gulf Shores or Orange Beach or to remove sand that covered roads on Dauphin Island.
