Tornado Damage

After completing their damage assessments yesterday, the National Weather Service says at least four tornadoes struck western Alabama earlier this week.

NWS officials say an EF2 tornado struck the McMullen community in Pickens County Tuesday evening, destroying 13 homes. 10 of the structures were mobile homes. EF2 tornadoes can have winds speeds between 113 and 157 mph and are known to cause considerable damage.

Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley is scheduled to continue his Road to Economic Recovery Tour with stops in Fayette County.

Bentley's tour of Fayette County will begin at noon Tuesday with a lunch stop at Sam's Smokehouse Restaurant in Fayette. At 1:30 p.m. the governor will participate in a round table discussion sponsored by the Fayette Area Chamber of Commerce at the Fayette Civic Center.

At 2:40 p.m. the governor will tour the Ox Bodies' facility in Fayette. Ox Bodies is a locally based company that designs and manufactures truck bodies, trailers, parts and accessories.
