Chilton County Looks to Build New Hospital

Chilton County's hospital closed several months ago. County officials are exploring funding methods for a new hospital.

Chilton County commissioners and the Clanton hospital board met Tuesday to explore funding methods for a new hospital.

   The commission has raised $1 million that they thought would work to reopen the hospital that closed seven months ago. When that was deemed unfeasible, they looked toward building a new facility.

   Chilton County residents are frustrated about the length time they must do without a local medical center.

Health Officials Close Doors of Clanton Hospital

Alabama's Department of Health is suspending the license of the Chilton Medical Center.

The Alabama Department of Health has issued an emergency order suspending the license of Clanton Hospital and closing its doors.

The hospital operates as the Chilton Medical Center. It was given notice earlier this month that its license could be revoked.

An attorney for the health department, Brian Hale, said Monday the hospital didn't have enough money for payroll checks for employees. Hale said there were two patients in the 60-bed hospital Monday and they were being transferred to hospitals in Alabaster and Birmingham.
