Lawyers Say Ex-Lobbyist Attacked In Alabama Prison

Lawyers for a former lobbyist who pleaded guilty in Alabama's gambling corruption case say he was attacked at a federal prison in Montgomery and moved to a different prison.


Attorneys for former Country Crossing casino lobbyist Jarrod Massey filed court documents requesting to see their client and check on his wellbeing. The date of the attack and Massey's condition are not disclosed in court records.


The U.S. Bureau of Prisons reports Massey was moved from the federal prison in Montgomery to the one in Talladega.

Prosecutors: No More Prison Delay For Casino Boss

The Justice Department wants no more delays and for Country Crossing developer Ronnie Gilley to report to jail.

A federal prosecutor is opposed to Country Crossing casino developer Ronnie Gilley getting a third delay on when he must report to prison.

Justice Department prosecutor Kendall Day filed court papers Tuesday saying the department opposes another delay for medical reasons. Day said the federal prison system can provide Gilley with the post-operative care he might require.

Acquitted Former Senator Makes Political Comeback

Acquitted former Sen. Larry Means has been elected mayor of Attalla.

A former state senator acquitted in Alabama's gambling corruption trial has made an overwhelming political comeback.

Former state Sen. Larry Means got elected mayor of Attalla on Tuesday night. He pulled in 69 percent of the vote in a four-way race.

Means got defeated in his Senate re-election bid in 2010 after getting indicted in Alabama's gambling corruption case. He was accused of voting for pro-gambling legislation in return for campaign contributions. He was cleared of all charges in two trials in 2011 and 2012.
