Young Still Jailed

By Alabama Public Radio

Jackson County, AL – Landfill developer and political lobbyist Clayton "Lanny" Young remains jailed in Jackson County for violating the terms of his pretrial release.
Young was out on bond awaiting to face charges of bribing elected officials, when last Friday, federal marshals requested he be jailed after being charged with DUI last month in Boaz. The arrest may have violation conditions of his release that say he would not break any laws, and that he would refrain for excessive use of alcohol.
Young will be held for an indefinite amount of time because a trial date for his bribery case has not yet been set. In that case, he is accused of bribing a Cherokee County probate judge to win support for a new landfill. He's also expected to be a witness in a separate case, where he has pleaded guilty to paying bribes to Nick Bailey, the executive secretary of former Governor Don Siegelman. The arrest in Boaz was also Young's second arrest for DUI since 2003.
