Worley, Chapman Looking Toward Campaign '06

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – Next year's race for Secretary of State may include one of each political party's top members. Secretary of State Nancy Worley say's she'll campaign for re-election next year. The Democrat won the office in 2002 after defeating former state Representative Dave Thomas in a close race. Her term in office has seen the implementation of voter identification requirements, the use of provisional ballots and the establishment of an automatic recount for close races. She's already facing a potential challenge from a high ranking Republican. State Auditor Beth Chapman says she's receiving support to run for Secretary of State. She says she's interested in the work associated with the office.
