Woman Walks to Bring Attention to Hunger

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – A south Alabama woman spent six days walking about 110 miles to Montgomery. Lisa Thomas walked from her home in Brewton to draw attention to plight of Alabamians who don't have enough money to buy food. Thomas runs a program to feed the poor, and she met with Governor Bob Riley Monday morning to discuss her concerns. She had made an appointment to see him before she began her walk. Thomas now plans to walk to Washington, D-C to take her message to President Bush. The White House has already informed her that she will not be able to meet the president in person.
