Winn-Dixie Sells Three Alabama Stores

By Alabama Public Radio

Jacksonville, FL – Bankrupt supermarket Winn-Dixie Stores has added about $18 million to its bank account. A bankruptcy judge Wednesday approved the sale of 15 stores' leases, including three in Alabama. Winn-Dixie is asking the judge to approve total sales of about 100 stores and 10 pharmacies in three days of hearings. The Jacksonville-based supermarket chain says it has bids totaling about $46 million. Individual store leases sold ranged in price from $20,000 to $100,000. Leases were sold for stores in Madison and Montgomery. The largest purchase approved by a federal bankruptcy judge was the purchase of six stores in North Carolina by Harris Teeter Incorporated for almost $16 million.
