Vol. Fire Chief Killed in Motorcycle Wreck

By Alabama Public Radio

Mobile, AL – A volunteer fire department chief in Mobile County was killed in a motorcycle crash at an Interstate 10 exit. William Alonzo Messer took the Dauphin Island Parkway exit late Friday night, hit a guard rail and landed on an embankment. The 58-year-old Theodore man was riding a 2002 Harley Davidson Electra Glide. The Fowl River Volunteer Fire Department chief's wife, Brenda, says her husband has lost about seven motorcyclist friends to fatal accidents in recent years. But she says he died doing something he loved.
