TVA Hits Record Power Levels

By Alabama Public Radio

Knoxville, TN – The Tennessee Valley Authority generated a record amount of nuclear power in 2004. TVA's three nuclear plants produced more than 47 million megawatts of electricity. That's enough power to supply every household in the agency's seven-state region. The federal utility now derives about 30 percent of its power from its Sequoyah and Watts Bar nuclear plants in Tennessee and from Browns Ferry in North Alabama. Repair and refueling outages in 2005 and 2006 will keep nuclear generation below the 2004 peak, but TVA officials are anticipating even more nuclear production in later years.
