TVA Has New Board Chair

By Alabama Public Radio

Knoxville, TN – President Bush says he intends to designate William Baxter as the chair of the Tennessee Valley Authority. Baxter will succeed Glenn McCullough, whose term expired in May. Baxter has been on the TVA board since 2001. The 51-year-old Knoxville resident was commissioner of the state Department of Economic and Community Development from 1997 until 2000. TVA is changing its board from the current three full-time members to nine part-time members. That change has not yet occurred because a quorum of five new board members has not been sworn in. The new part-time board will become active when Bush nominates and the Senate confirms at least three new members. The other current TVA board member is Skila Harris.
