Tutu's Canceled Visit Controversial

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – A spokeswoman for Archbishop Desmond Tutu says he did not cancel his trip to Alabama Tuesday because of a personal emergency. Montgomery minister James Webb organized the trip. Lavina Crawford-Browne confirmed that Tutu is returning to South Africa, but she says there was no family or personal emergency, as Webb had claimed. Crawford-Browne says logistical problems, including an unpaid hotel accommodation led to the cancellation. Webb says he knows nothing of problems with the accommodations. He maintains that he was told there was an emergency that sent Tutu back to South Africa.
