Tuscaloosa, AL – Attorney General Troy King says he has no plans to take immediate legal action against Tuscaloosa County voting officials, after they failed to send absentee ballots to overseas military personnel in time for them to vote.
Absentee ballots were delay as Tuscaloosa County waited for the US Justice Department to pre-clear its new redistricting plan.
Secretary of State Nancy Worley had asked King to consider taking legal action to assure that the ballots of military personnel in Tuscaloosa County are counted. But King says he has been assured by that no voters would be denied the right to vote because of the late ballots.
State law required absentee ballots to be sent to military personnel 40 days before an election.
