Troops Requesting Absentee Ballots
By Alabama Public Radio
Montgomery, AL – Thousands of troops stationed in Iraq and elsewhere are expecting to receive absentee ballots for the November Second election. Troops have requested nearly five thousand of them. The presidential election is less than a month away, and the application deadline is three weeks away. Trey Granger, a spokesperson for Secretary of State Nancy Worley, says troops must request absentee ballots by October 28th. State officials say about 30-thousand Alabamians connected with the military live abroad, either as troops or military dependents. Meanwhile, court clerks across Alabama say absentee applications have been coming in steadily for several weeks. Clerks credit a Department of Defense campaign to promote voting and the U-S- Postal Service's efforts to quickly handle military mail.
