Some historic preservationists in Tuscaloosa want city officials to help relocate the historic Searcy House on Greensboro Avenue to a site in Capitol Park.
Historic Preservation Society officials expressed the idea Tuesday to the City Council's Public Projects Committee.
Society board member Robert Reynolds said the Searcy House would enhance Capitol Park.
Another board member, Marty Hamner, said initial estimates for the move run from $150,000 to $200,000, which includes the installation of a new concrete foundation for the house.
However, Mayor Walt Maddox questioned not only the initial costs of relocation but also the ongoing costs to operate and maintain the structure that was built in 1904.
