Cold weather could bring snow to northeast Alabama tonight.

Cold weather could bring snow to northeast Alabama tonight.

Alabama is in the grip of more wintery weather. Lows tonight and Tuesday night are expected to be in the twenties with a slight warming trend in the forecast for Wednesday and Thursday. The chilly conditions will stretch from the Tennessee Valley all the way to the Gulf Coast. Stephen Latimer is a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Huntsville. He says residents throughout Alabama need to get ready for the cold temperatures…

“We recommend that people take all precautions to protect all the sensitive plants you might have outside, as well as any pets or animals. Make sure they’re taken care of too, making sure they’re taken care of too. Whether that means bringing them brought indoors or brought to a shelter.”

The long term forecast for Alabama indicates our next shot of cold air may not occur until about this time next week.

A judge has delayed House Speaker Mike Hubbard's trial on ethics charges until 2015. A Lee County Circuit Judge pushed back a December 8th trial date at the request of the defense. The judge will now meet with prosecutors and defense lawyers in early January to discuss a timeline for the case. A grand jury last month indicted Hubbard on felony ethics charges. The indictment accuses Hubbard of using his public positions to obtain work for his companies and to solicit investments from lobbyists. The Auburn Republican has pleaded not guilty and called the investigation a political witch hunt. Hubbard's trial could coincide with the legislative session unless it is delayed until at least summer. Hubbard is seeking a second term as speaker.

It was a big win for the Alabama Crimson Tide over number one ranked Mississippi State. But, will the committee that sets the College Football Playoff rankings be impressed. The panel meets today and tomorrow before announcing the new pecking order of teams. The Tide beat the Bulldogs twenty five to twenty despite a Mississippi State touchdown with just fifteen seconds left on the clock. Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen says the Tide had a lot going for them…

“They got a great coaching staff. They got a great football team, a tremendous amount of talent, 101,000 people in a tough place to come play. Besides that, I don’t know what would make it tough.”

Quarterback Blake Sims along with running back T.J. Yeldon as well as Alabama’s defensive line are all credited with holding off the Bulldogs. Mississippi tried a last minute on-side kick in hopes of finishing their comeback with a win, but Alabama recovered the ball and ran out the clock.
