Smoking Ban Delayed in Birmingham

By Alabama Public Radio

Birmingham, AL – The Birmingham City Council will wait another week to vote on an ordinance to ban smoking in restaurants and other public places. The proposal had its first reading Tuesday, but two council members did not consent to a vote after the reading. City Councilors Joel Montgomery and Carol Reynolds are both smokers and are both opposed to the smoking ban. They delayed the vote until the next meeting. Councilor Elias Hendricks also said he wanted to delay the vote until an anti-smoking bill that's before the state Legislature is considered.
