Six TVA Plants Land on "Dirtiest" List

By Alabama Public Radio

Knoxville, TN – Six TVA coal plants are among the 50 dirtiest in the nation. A study by the Washington, D.C.-based Environmental Integrity Project says one of those six is the Widows Creek plant here in Alabama. The other five are in Tennessee and Kentucky. TVA provides electricity to portions of North Alabama. It's implementing a $6 billion program to curb air pollution at its coal plants. The study says the nation's 50 dirtiest coal plants generate almost half the soot and smog but only 14 percent of the electricity of all plants. The project used EPA data collected from utilities.
