Shrimpers Support Voluntary Fee

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – Alabama's seafood industry is supporting one amendment that would impose a voluntary fee on its products to fund promotional activities. It's on the statewide ballot because it's a revenue issue and would be handled by the state agriculture department. The seafood industry is trying to compete with cheap foreign shrimp imports. Shrimpers blame those imports for depressing the prices of domestic shrimp.
