Severe weather impacts Northern Alabama

Forecasters say severe thunderstorms may have also produced tornadoes in parts of northern Alabama and southern Tennessee.

The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for Madison and Jackson counties in Alabama, and south Lincoln County, Tennessee on Friday night.

Madison County Emergency Management Agency operations coordinator Jim Pockrus says authorities were told of downed trees shortly after the tornado warning had expired.

Limestone County Emergency Management Agency Director Rita White says there have been reports of downed trees and an unoccupied mobile home was also blown off of its foundation.

Forecasters had warned of damaging winds, quarter-sized hail and flying debris in a large swath of north Alabama and south Tennessee.

Other areas north of Birmingham and Gadsden, Alabama were covered by severe thunderstorm watches and warnings.
