Scrushy's Defense Blames Subordinates

By Alabama Public Radio

Birmingham, AL – Defense attorneys for former HealthSouth C-E-O Richard Scrushy on Wednesday continued blaming subordinates for the company's multi-billion dollar accounting scandal. Attorney Jim Parkman accused two former executives of trying to save themselves in the days before an F-B-I raid exposed the fraud. But former HealthSouth executives Weston Smith and Bill Owens say Scrushy not only knew of the accounting fraud but orchestrated it, as well. Government prosecutors have charged Scrushy with multiple criminal counts in the case.
