Scrushy Jury Heads Back for 16th Day

By Alabama Public Radio

Birmingham, AL – A federal jury failed to reach a verdict Wednesday in its 15th day of deliberations in the trial of former HealthSouth CEO Richard Scrushy. He's charged with leading a multi billion dollar earnings overstatement at the rehabilitation and medical services company. The panel has previously reported being deadlocked on all 36 counts against Scrushy. Scrushy is the first Chief Executive charged under the Sarbanes-Oxley corporate reporting law. He's also accused of conspiracy, false reporting, fraud and money laundering. Scrushy's defense blames the massive accounting fraud on former executives, including 15 who have pleaded guilty to charges. Deliberations are set to resume at 8:30 Thursday morning.
