Scrushy Jurors Wrap Up Third Day

By Alabama Public Radio

Birmingham, AL – The jurors considering the case against Richard Scrushy did not reach a decision Monday. It was the third day of deliberations in the trial of the former HealthSouth C-E-O. Scrushy faces the equivalent of a life sentence if convicted, plus millions of dollars in fines and asset forfeitures. However, the exact range of his possible punishment is unclear because of some uncertainty in federal sentencing rules. Prosecutors say he purposefully overstated company earnings by nearly three billion dollars. But defense attorneys say Scrushy's subordinates are responsible for the fraud.
