Scrushy Could Take Stand in Fraud Trial

By Alabama Public Radio

Birmingham, AL – Former HealthSouth C-E-O Richard Scrushy could take the stand in his corporate fraud trial. His lawyers say they have prepared Scrushy to take the stand, but they would not say much else about it. Defense attorney Jim Parkman did say the defense team already has made a decision whether Scrushy will testify. He says Scrushy has been informed about possible questions and exhibits he would face should he take the stand. The government has charged Scrushy with directing a scheme to overstate HealthSouth earnings by two-point-seven billion dollars. But the defense says Scrushy's subordinates were responsible for the fraud.
