Representative is Too Sick to Serve

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – State Representative Lucius Black has been too sick to attend legislative sessions for the past two years. Black represents House District 71 and has been ailing with an unspecified illness. He has not attended a legislative meeting since 2003. However, he has continued to receive his legislative pay, which is about 30 thousand dollars a year. State House officials say Alabama has no law concerning what to do when a lawmaker is too sick to handle his duties. Black's wife says her husband is making progress but she has no idea when he will be able to return to the legislature.
