Birmingham, AL – The president of Honduras was in Alabama Tuesday. Ricardo Maduro traveled to Birmingham to promote a free-trade agreement between the United States and six Central American countries. It's called the Central American Free Trade Agreement, or CAFTA. Maduro says the agreement would benefit the U-S by helping add jobs and improve economies in Central America. He also says it would help reduce crime. But American manufacturers oppose the measure, saying it would cost American jobs. Congressman Artur Davis also opposes it, saying the trade deal does not go far enough to improve worker rights and help U-S workers who could lose their jobs.
