Police Chief Says He's Innocent

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – Montgomery Police Chief John Wilson says he's innocent of reckless endangerment charges. They were filed against him this week after a roadway incident late Tuesday night on Interstate 85. Rhett Cooper says Wilson ran him off the interstate, and he accuses the police chief of driving while intoxicated. Wilson strongly denies that charge. Wilson turned himself in to Montgomery County Sheriff D-T Marshall Wednesday and was released after posting a 15-hundred dollar bond. Wilson issued a statement saying Hooper apparently is acting on a grudge stemming from his time as a Montgomery police officer. Cooper resigned from the department in June 2001 amid a pending investigation.
