By Alabama Public Radio

Opelika, AL – Lee County officials are praising the decision of a Swedish-based medical services company. Gambro Renal Products plans to build a large manufacturing plant in Opelika. Company executives announced Wednesday that Gambro will invest more than $100 million in the project and will hire 150 employees. Construction on the new plant is scheduled to begin in early 2006, and officials say production should start in mid-2008. Gambro makes Polyflux dialyzers. That's an artificial kidney that removes impurities from the blood. The company already makes dialyzers at facilities in Germany and France.
