Newspaper Sues for Education Employee Records

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – The Montgomery Advertiser is suing the Montgomery County Board of Education because it has not released the names of public employees who are on administrative leave. An attorney representing the newspaper says the lawsuit asks a judge to determine whether certain employee records are open to the public. Dennis Bailey says the newspaper is concerned that people who interact with schoolchildren can be placed on administrative leave without parents knowing about it. The lawsuit was filed three business days after the school board's attorney denied the newspaper's request.
