Newly Restored Finger Again Missing

By Alabama Public Radio

Gadsden, AL – The marble finger on Gadsden's Emma Sansom statue is missing...again. Officials say they believe the new finger was removed sometime in May. The finger was just restored in April after being missing for somewhere between four and 50 years. The monument honors 15-year-old Emma Sansom, who in 1863 led Confederate troops across Black Creek. The finger of the statue points across Black Creek. The statue was dedicated in 1907.
