Movie Gallery Passes Regulatory Review

By Alabama Public Radio

Dothan, AL – Movie Gallery has passed a regulatory review of possible antitrust issues. The Dothan-based company is the nation's third largest movie rental chain, and it's attempting to purchase Hollywood Entertainment, the country's second-largest. Movie Gallery released a statement Monday noting that Blockbuster is still under investigation by the Federal Trade Commission. Blockbuster also wants to purchase Hollywood Entertainment and has made a nearly one billion dollar bid for it. Movie Gallery announced last month that it had entered into a merger agreement to acquire Hollywood for about 900 million dollars. The proposed purchase must still be approved by Hollywood's shareholders.
