Montgomery, AL – Funeral services will be held Tuesday for Bill McDonald. McDonald was the former editorial page editor of the Montgomery Advertiser. He died Saturday of heart attack at the age of 79. McDonald is remembered for urging moderation and understanding during Alabama's civil rights struggles. Ray Jenkins worked at the Advertiser's sister paper the Alabama Journal during the civil rights era. He says McDonald wrote with force, clarity and courage during the often violent period of desegregation. McDonald worked for almost 30 years with the editorial pages of the Advertiser and the Journal. He later handled communications for the Medical Association of the state of Alabama. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Church of the Ascension in Montgomery.
