Montgomery, AL – The chairs of the House and Senate education budget-writing committees are complaining about Governor Riley's proposed budgets. Centre Representative Richard Lindsey and Selma Senator Hank Sanders say the Governor should prepare budgets that do not draw more funding from the education budget for programs that traditionally get most of their money from the General Fund budget. They say that many schools are still suffering from previous years of budget cuts. The two are now asking Riley to withdraw his proposals and submit alternative spending plans. Riley's communications director, Jeff Emerson, defended the Governor's proposed budgets. Emerson says the budgets provide record levels of funding for education.
