Hoover Theatre to Screen Movie in Spanish

By Alabama Public Radio

Hoover, AL – A Hoover movie theatre is reaching out to the city's Hispanic community. The Carmike 10 cinema is showing a movie with a Spanish-language track. Theatre management officials say the move could be a first for the Birmingham area. The theatre started showing "The Forgotten" last Friday. The thriller starring Julianne Moore was released in September and was originally filmed in English. Theatre manager Jimmy Sturdivant says the idea came after employees noticed that many Hispanics came to the theatre. But the employees said the Hispanics' English skills prevented them from fully enjoying movies. Sturdivant says he consulted with the corporate office and decided to offer a movie either in Spanish, dubbed or subtitled in the language for the Hispanic community. He says he believes this is the first time a major theatre in the Birmingham area has screened a movie that's dubbed in a foreign language.
