Birmingham, AL – Movie Gallery Incorporated raised more than $700,000 through its charitable "Be A Star" promotion. The Dothan-based company donated the money to the Helen Keller Foundation in Birmingham Wednesday. Movie Gallery's U.S stores contributed almost $600,000...while Canadian stores contributed just more than $100,000. Movie Gallery has about 4,500 stores in all 50 states, Mexico and Canada. The company generates $2.5 billion in annual revenue. Officials say the money will fund research and education at the Foundation. Movie Gallery customers donated money for a star on which their names were written. The stars were posted prominently in stores. They cost $1 and were available in all stores throughout the United States and Canada.
